About History Is Lit:

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.

I created History Is Lit because I believe every student deserves a chance to access, understand, and care about the past—regardless of their reading level, language background, or prior school experience. In too many classrooms, history is taught through dense textbooks and assumed fluency. But as a middle school teacher with multilingual learners and vast literacy ranges, I knew that wasn’t working.

I started flipping the script: teaching skills first, content second. Instead of focusing on memorizing dates and battles, I focused on building critical thinkers. I used structured talk routines, interactive activities, and brain science to get students engaged in meaningful discussions—even those who had been checked out for years.

What I discovered? When you remove the barriers and scaffold the skills, students show up. They contribute. They care. And they begin to see themselves in history.

That’s what History Is Lit is all about:

  • Helping teachers make history relevant and engaging

  • Putting students and skills at the center

  • Making instruction accessible, interactive, and real

Whether you’re a new teacher looking for easy wins or a veteran ready to revamp your routines, you’ll find resources here that are flexible, classroom-tested, and designed with diverse learners in mind.

Let’s make history matter—together.

Three things to know about my resources:

  1. They focus on critical thinking, not just content.

  2. They’re built to work for real classrooms with real constraints.

  3. They help all students find their voice—especially in discussion.

Thanks for stopping by, History Is Lit
